The library PG2PLplot has been developed to aid the transition from PGPlot to PLplot in Fortran programs. In particular, PGPLOT supports only 8-bit indexed color graphics, and not full RGB color and there is no clean way to render graphics directly to an array in program memory. In part because of its age, PGPLOT has several limitations compared to newer packages such as PLplot. It is known to run on many operating systems, including most Unix-like systems, MacOS, and Microsoft Windows. Interactive devices can be used to deliver numeric parameters to the controlling program via a graphics cursor. PGPLOT includes device-independent output to many devices including several types of image file, graphics display terminals and plotters, PostScript devices, and X Window. There are also several user-contributed bindings, such as C++, perl, python, ruby and tcl/tk. PGPLOT provides C and Fortran 77 interface. The most recent version of PGPLOT is 5.2.2, released in February 2001, although third parties have written unofficial patches that include support for additional devices, 64 bit systems, and RGB (true color) plotting. Neither the original nor modified source code are allowed to be redistributed. PGPLOT may be redistributed to third parties and modified, but only in binary form. PGPLOT has been widely used in the academic and scientific communities, because it provides both low-level (glyph, point, line, and area) plotting primitives and also high-level facilities for drawing graphs. PGPLOT is written mostly in FORTRAN with a modular output API that allows output to several dozen types of plotting device. Back to News.PGPLOT is a device-independent graphics subroutine library written starting in 1983 by Tim Pearson, a professor at the California Institute of Technology. If you have any problems or concerns, our Support page has multiple options for assisting users. If you find Simply Fortran useful, please consider purchasing a license. The latest release is available immediately on the Download page. On both GNU/Linux and macOS, the built-in password dialog used for version control interaction with remote repositories now accepts the "Enter" key properly rather than requiring the user to click the Ok button. The package incorporates the Simply Fortran Integrated Development Environment, including an integrated debugger, and the GNU Fortran compiler. This change should be transparent to users. Simply Fortran is a complete Fortran development solution for Microsoft Windows and GNU/Linux. On macOS, the development environment is now using the hardened runtime for additional security. On GNU/Linux, Simply Fortran will no longer crash if there is no Fortran compiler present and the About window is opened. The AppGraphics documentation has been updated in regards to file dialogs to stress the need to pass a valid, initialized string when requesting a file dialog. On Windows, a major drawing issue caused by saving open tabs with a project has been corrected. When future releases are posted to our Download page, the development environment will provide a message and link in the bottom status bar. The development environment now checks this website for updated releases to notify users when a new version is available. The version control status should now be updated whenever files on disk are changed automatically. Working directories should now be properly set in the debugging environment when different from the project directory. Intermittent failures to start the debugger on all platforms, especially GNU/Linux, due to querying an uninitialized variable have been fixed. Project extensions are now enforced when creating a new project in Simply Fortran. Topics in this forum with details of replies, views, last post. Files changed on disk will now only present a single message to the user rather than generate multiple alert windows. The autocompletion system has been updated to provide alphabetically-sorted guesses in all circumstances, and possible crash points caused by autocompletion have been eliminated. This release incorporates minor feature updates, usability improvements, and numerous bug fixes for the development environment. Approximatrix is happy to announce the availability of Simply Fortran version 3.3 for all supported platforms.
